So who are the best new chefs in America? With it being the height of awards season, we are starting to get some insights:

  • (Beard) = Rising Star Chef of the Year Award 2011 According to the James Beard Foundation, the award is given to “a chef age 30 or younger who displays an impressive talent and who is likely to have a significant impact on the industry in years to come.”
  • (FW Editor) = Food and Wine’s Best New Chefs 2011 As decided by the editors of Food and Wine magazine, best new chefs recognizes “up-and-coming chefs with a distinctive culinary style and exceptional vision.”
  • (FW People) = The People’s Best New Chef 2011 As voted by readers of Food and Wine magazine.
  • (NYM) = NY Magazine’s Best New Chefs 2011 The reasoning here is that if you are a best new chef in the hypercompetitive New York market, then you’re most likely one of the best in the country. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere
